America Discovered
The Columbus Day web site is dedicated to information about Christopher Columbus and the discovery of America. It really isn't hard to realize that lots of people inhabited America way before Christopher Columbus ever found it. It was many thousands of years ago that the first group took up residency of this land; they are known as the Asiatic peoples. Other historical evidence clearly shows teams going to Northern America which were begun by Bjarni Herjolfsson. So, if Christopher Columbus didn't make the first discovery why is he remembered for it and has a whole day for himself? From reading through his accomplishments on each of his voyages, even though he got himself in trouble at times, Christopher Columbus initiated continual travel between the two worlds. It was also his pioneering spirit that made Europe aware of America. He is the reason native American Indians are called Indians because he thought they were in India. It is true that Christopher Columbus was way-off with his calculations of his location in the world, and he never found the route he wanted, but he did begin European trade, travel and colonization of the Americas!
