- 1451 Christopher Columbus is born in Genoa, Italy
- 1476 Christopher Columbus is shipwrecked and swims to the Portuguese shore
- 1477-1482 Christopher Columbus starts his merchant trips
- 1484 attempts to persuade the King of Portugal to support his search for a path to the Indies but is unsuccessful
- 1485 Christopher Columbus relocates to Spain
- August 1492 Christopher Columbus starts first voyage
- September 1492 Christopher Columbus undergoes maintenance on his ship at the Canary Islands and then leaves
- October 1492 was the first sighting of the new world in the Bahamas area
- October 1492 Christopher Columbus lands in Cuba
- November 1492 captain Martín Alonso Pinzón forsakes the journey
- December 1492 he pulls into Hispaniola
- December 1492 the flagship goes under. La Navidad is established
